Last week got the better of me.
It was a week of ever changing schedules. Challenges. A day or two of not feeling well. I got everything done, but I did NOTHING about chasing and building my dream. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
There was a time in my life, and it was a long time, when that kind of inaction would have felt like failure. I would have beaten myself up for not keeping to my discipline. I would have told myself I am never going to get “there” (“there” being my dream). A couple of bad weeks like that and I might have given up completely.
Sound familiar? I think a lot of us are like that.
What a waste of energy that is! What a roadblock we build for ourselves with that misplaced guilt! Read that last sentence again: What a roadblock we build for OURSELVES with that misplaced guilt.
Dreams rarely have a timeline. Just pick up and start again. Unlike misplaced guilt, the energy we spend picking up and starting again gets us somewhere. Moves us closer. And the mere action of doing something, anything to nudges us closer to the dream.
Action, they say, trumps anxiety. It also does a pretty good number on guilt. So stop beating yourself up. Just take the next step, whatever that step may be. Cut the rope of misplaced guilt and you may well find yourself flying far sooner than you ever imagined.
Be well, Travel wisely,
Tom
PS: I am following my own advice this morning. Next task? Drawing up a new lesson for my upcoming online class. Happy Monday!
